Dan Meyer has been talking a lot about encouraging “patient problem solvers,” and now Tim Childers considers an approach to presenting problems that makes the kids he teaches work through the why themselves: I’ve been thinking of ways to...

countryandwestern: aconybell: My First Lover // Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings This is why I love country music, and especially why these two are my favorite. Just look at them. Look at the movement of their fingers. This is the final cut of this song off the album. Without any huge production or editing her voice or any other bullshit. Just two amazingly talented people and a microphone....

Good Weekend in Seoul
So, my second weekend in this city has been great.   Walking along the Han, gallery hopping (including a fantastic Louis Bourgeois show!), random subway-taking exploration trips, Nakwon Arcade (there go my paycheques…) and a junket to Seorae for the best Pain au Chocolat I’ve had since I lived in Montreal.   All interspersed with tuning in to old friends on CFYT back in Dawson City.  ...

Dear Olympic Tourists,
I too am only a visitor to this city by the sea, but I’ve lived here in the past, and thought it best that I explain something to you before there’s some kind of dreadful accident. You see those green signs with the little white stridey guy on them?  That’s where you should be walking.   The sign with Olympic rings that are missing three of their pals, but which are joined up...

The Just
etctatic: A man who cultivates his garden, as Voltaire wished. He who is grateful for the existence of music. He who takes pleasure in tracing an etymology. Two workmen playing, in a cafe in the South, a silent game of chess. The potter, contemplating a color and a form. The typographer who sets this page well, though it may not please him. A woman and a man, who read the last tercets of a...
